Hi everyone,
Thanks so much for participating in my workshop last weekend. I wanted to follow up with some materials that might be of use.
Screen readers
This is a
great video showing an overview of how a screen reader works. I know we didn't get into the details of this, but hopefully this fills in any gaps in your knowledge about why all this is important. I'm still learning too!
Tutorials on local server & GitHub Pages
Two technical tutorials by me:
Some of my favorite web accessibility projects / resources- Exclusive Design by Vasilis van Gemert
I'd highly recommend reading through this project, Vasilis's master project a few years ago. There are also some talks he's given online if you prefer a different format :)
- a11y Rules Podcast by Nicolas Steenhout
Audio conversations with disabled people about using websites. Really nice to bring it to the specific individual level.
- "Tools" section of Alt-Text as Poetry Website
Some other great references here! Shannon Finnegan & Bojana Coklyat are great curators as well as writers / creators!
- Solid Start
A kind of minimal website that mentions some basic things you can do to start considering web accessibility! A good place to start :]
- WCAG Theme Song
Really good vibe
